Continuous Cast Iron Bars Engineered to Global Standards

Engineered to Meet Global Standards

Hualong Precision Manufacturing offers a broad range of gray and ductile iron grades, produced to comply with ASTM specifications, Chinese QT standards, and other internationally recognized requirements. Each bar is manufactured for consistent structure, predictable performance, and reliable machinability across applications.

In 2008, Hualong led a consortium of continuous cast iron producers and design engineers to develop JB/T 10854Continuous Cast Iron Bar Standards and Specifications. This specification defines the metallurgical, mechanical, and physical requirements for continuous cast iron bars produced in China, ensuring alignment with global material standards.

JB/T 10854 gives manufacturers and engineers confidence that HBar materials meet world-class expectations for quality, repeatability, and compliance.

Continuous Cast Bar

Continuous cast iron bar was developed in Europe in the 1940s as a faster, more efficient alternative to traditional sand casting. By machining parts directly from solid bar stock, manufacturers eliminated tooling, molds, and long lead times—while gaining more consistent material performance.

Compared to conventional castings, continuous cast iron delivers a uniform microstructure, repeatable mechanical properties, and material that is free from shrinkage, gas porosity, and inclusions.

Vertical Cast Tubes

As continuous casting evolved, manufacturers pursued a reliable way to produce hollow iron bars for applications such as piston rings, sleeves, and thin-walled components. Starting from tubes significantly reduces machining time and scrap compared to solid bars.

Today, HBar tubes are available in a wide range of grades and sizes, delivering material efficiency, reduced scrap, and consistent performance.

Cast Iron

Cast iron is a ferrous alloy primarily composed of iron, carbon, and silicon. By definition, cast iron contains higher carbon content than steel, typically ranging from 2.5–4.0%, depending on the size and grade of the casting. Silicon is intentionally added as an inoculating agent, promoting the formation of graphite as excess carbon precipitates from the molten iron.

This graphite structure gives cast iron many of its defining characteristics, including excellent machinability, wear resistance, thermal stability, and vibration-damping properties—making it a preferred material for a wide range of industrial applications.

Ductile Iron

Ductile iron was developed in the 1940s in response to a challenge by the American Foundrymen Society to create a cast iron with nodular (spheroidal) graphite rather than flakes. First produced in 1943 and widely adopted by the 1960s, ductile iron combined the castability of iron with dramatically improved toughness and strength.

With the advancement of continuous casting, ductile iron became available in bar form—leading engineers to view it as a direct alternative to plain carbon steel bar in many applications.

Gray Iron

Gray iron is the earliest and most widely used form of cast iron. It contains flake-shaped graphite dispersed throughout a metal matrix. This interconnected graphite structure gives gray iron its distinctive properties.
