Ductile Iron

Ductile Iron

Ductile iron contains nodular graphite in a matrix structure ranging from all ferrite to all pearlite.  Intermediate grades have different ratios of pearlite to ferrite depending on the specific grade being produced.

Ductile iron barstock is an excellent alternative to carbon steel because of its similar properties and superior machinability

Hualong produces a wide range of ductile iron grades conforming to ASTM A536, QT, and ENJ standards.  All grades have similar advantages:

  • Nodular graphite structure for improved ductility and toughness
  • High strength without the brittleness of gray iron
  • Excellent machinability compared to carbon steel
  • Lighter weight and improved chip control
  • Strong balance of strength, fatigue resistance, and wear performance

Each grade is designated by its mechanical properties with the most common listed in the table below:

HBar ductile iron is available in multiple standard grades, delivering consistent structure, predictable machining behavior, and steel-like performance with lower machining cost.
